Wilmer Antonio Gomez-Rodriguez, 29, was found guilty on two counts on Sept. 10. He was arrested as part of a joint investigation of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area and the Norwalk Police Department into suspected cocaine and heroin distribution by his cohort Omar Andrade.
Police arrested the Dominican Republic citizen Gomez-Rodriguez and Andrade, as well as Joel A. Estrella-Disla, on Sept. 30, 2014, after the trio delivered a kilogram of heroin to a prearranged location in Norwalk, said a statement from the U.S. attorney's office.
The jury found Gomez-Rodriguez guilty of one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, one kilogram or more of heroin, as well as one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, 100 grams or more of heroin.
The offenses carry mandatory minimum sentences of 10 and five years, with a maximum of life in prison.
Gomez-Rodriguez, who was released on bond and remanded at the conclusion of his trial, is to be sentenced on Dec. 3 by U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant.
Andrade, a Mexican citizen last residing in Norwalk, and Estrella, a Dominican Republic native whose last known residency was New York City, each pleaded guilty and await sentencing on one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 100 grams or more of heroin -- an offense with a minimum punishment of five years and a maximum of 40 years.
